How this calculator works

Each course contributes grade points equal to its grade points × credits. The cumulative GPA is the total quality points divided by the total credits.

gpa = Σ (gradePoints × credits) / Σ credits

# Example (4.0 scale)
A  (3 credits) → 4.0 × 3 = 12.0
B+ (4 credits) → 3.3 × 4 = 13.2
A- (3 credits) → 3.7 × 3 = 11.1
                              ────
quality points  =          36.3
total credits   =          10
gpa             =          3.63
  1. Pick the grading scale your institution uses (4.0, 4.3, 10-point, or percentage).
  2. For each course, choose the letter grade (or enter a percentage) and the number of credits.
  3. The calculator multiplies each grade’s point value by its credit count to get quality points.
  4. It sums all quality points and divides by total credits to get your weighted GPA.
  5. Add or remove courses on the fly — the result updates instantly.

Use cases

When to use it

  • Calculate your semester or cumulative GPA before grades are released.
  • Predict the GPA you need to hit a target (Dean’s List, scholarships, graduate school).
  • Compare different course-load scenarios when planning enrollment.
  • Convert a percentage transcript to a 4.0-scale GPA for US applications.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is GPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) is a weighted average of your grades, where each grade is converted to grade points and weighted by the credits of the course.
What is the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA covers a single term. Cumulative GPA combines every semester you have completed, weighted by total credits — it is the number that ends up on your transcript.
Why are there multiple grading scales?
Different countries and institutions use different conventions. The 4.0 scale is standard in the US; the 4.3 scale is common in Canada and parts of Asia; the 10-point scale is the norm in India.
How is the percentage scale converted to GPA?
Percentages are mapped to the standard US 4.0 scale: 93%+ = 4.0, 90–92% = 3.7, 87–89% = 3.3, and so on down to <60% = 0.
Can I add as many courses as I want?
Yes. Add or remove rows freely — the GPA recalculates instantly with each change.
