How this calculator works
BMI compares weight to height squared. The squared height accounts for the fact that taller people have more total mass even at the same body composition.
Metric: BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)²
Imperial: BMI = (weight(lb) / height(in)²) × 703 - Choose your unit system — metric (kg, cm) or imperial (lb, in).
- Enter your current weight and height.
- The calculator squares your height and divides weight by it (multiplied by 703 for imperial).
- Your BMI value is matched against WHO categories: <18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, ≥30 obese.
- The healthy weight range (BMI 18.5–24.9) for your height is computed in reverse so you know the target.
